New era for LCRIG as Martin Duffy steps down as Chair

During the opening ceremony of this year’s Strictly Highways, the Local Council Roads Innovation Group (LCRIG) Chair, Martin Duffy announced that he is stepping down from the role.

Mr Duffy, who previously held the role of Chief Executive, said: ‘’I think I’ve played a part in LCRIG’s growth and reputation. But now it is time for me to stand down and let others take the organisation forward. I feel like I’ve done what I can, and it is the right time for me to stand down as Chair. Over the course of this year my role will diminish. But I will forever be around to support the organisation with whatever is needed.’’

The outgoing Chair revealed that early discussions around bringing in a new Chair had started, adding: ‘’Maybe they will bring in a new view and look at alternative ways of doing things. Some new blood could help us continue with accelerated growth. It’s not goodbye, I’ll be at future events and will always be on hand to help if needed.’’

The search for Martin’s predecessor is set to start in the coming weeks and months.

During the DfT Special Recognition awards on the evening of 04 October, Martin was presented with a special Lifetime Achievement award in recognition of his services to the highways industry.

Martin said: “I’m absolutely blown away. I was caught totally by surprise. I feel humbled by the industry who obviously thinks that I’ve made a contribution over the course of my career – I’ve just been having a great time! I’ve been having an absolute blast. Never in a lifetime would I have imagined it would result in something like this. I can’t tell you how proud and honoured I am to receive this from our industry.”

Paula Claytonsmith, Chief Executive of LCRIG comments: “Martin has been such a huge part of LCRIG, and his passion, experience and humour has infused all that we do. However, we won’t be losing Martin’s involvement in LCRIG activity as Martin is currently Chair of NY Highways and he will continue to be on the LCRIG Innovation Infrastructure board.”
