LCRIG team present cheque to local charity, Nightsafe

On Monday (17 January) members of the Local Council Roads Innovation Group (LCRIG) team attended Nightsafe with representatives from Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council to present a cheque to the local charity. This follows the success of December’s Care Leavers appeal where 98 care leavers were presented with individually wrapped gifts due to generous donations from Multevo, Jointline, Caseys, AJ Bretherton, Uni-Play, Connor Specialist Paving, Tensar and LCRIG.

Dwayne Lowe, Head of Highways Transport and Network at Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council commented: “Thank you to all of the companies that donated for continuing to support Blackburn with Darwen Borough Council to ensure that each of our care leavers received a Christmas present this year. Supported by LCRIG, this initiative really fulfils upon their status as a Community Interest Company (CIC) and we look forward to continuing to support important community initiatives, such as this in the future.

“Thanks to your generous donations we provided 98 care leavers with individually wrapped and very thoughtful presents and we achieved this largely down to the dedication of Emily and Adam from the LCRIG team. In addition down to their business acumen we also managed to generate £230 in cash back from all the offers they managed to find! Today we donated this money to a local charity Nightsafe, who I am sure you will know work with the aim of alleviating the plight of homeless and vulnerably housed young people within the borough.

Thank you again for your generosity and for proving that the highways community is a fantastic and inclusive environment with further reach than just maintaining our roads!”

Nightsafe are a local Charity set up in 1990 by a group of local people, with the aim of alleviating the plight of homeless and vulnerably housed young people within the borough of Blackburn with Darwen and surrounding areas.

The Nightsafe charity works with young people who are homeless or are at risk of homelessness and will provide accommodation, day centres with information, advice and guidance.

Emily Craine, Marketing Coordinator at LCRIG commented: “Thank you to Dwayne and Nightsafe for inviting us to attend the presentation, it really highlighted how important organisations like Nightsafe are. The Care Leavers Christmas Appeal has been a rewarding experience to be a part of and I look forward to supporting future initiatives.”
