LCRIG led webinar will look at the importance of social value

A webinar which will look at the importance of delivering collaborative social value and the impact it can have on society is being delivered by the Local Council Roads Innovation Group (LCRIG), in association with Colas.

Entitled ‘Rebooting social value’, the webinar will look at how far the highways sector has come in embedding social value and where the challenges still lie.

When we think about social value and how to embed it into the highways sector, it is worth remembering that roads help communities to receive their day-to-day services, get people to the office, get young people to colleges and schools, provide an environment for active travel and help to support the economy.

Ultimately, they provide a universal service that is evolving all the time. The social value that is derived from this can only happen through collaboration.

Measuring and monitoring social value is another challenge but looking at Key Performance Indicators (KPIs) is not the only answer. The industry must look at how it can further showcase the personal stories and case studies and outcomes which highlight the true impact of social value.

Finally, what can be done if social value is not delivered when promised and what sort of punitive measures need to be in place to deter complacency?

As we enter the second decade since the introduction of the Social Value Act, it is now time to reboot and discover how to take social value to the next level.
