This week, the Local Council Roads Innovation Group (LCRIG) is celebrating a significant milestone in its history, as it reaches over 300 Members.
Established in 2013 by its President, Will Britain, under the name of the Local Council Highways Investment Group (LCHIG), the organisation originally consisted of 11 local authorities. The group was formed to encourage councils to work together and with the ‘highways community’ to support the Department for Transport to deliver innovation on a national level.
Ten years on, LCRIG’s vision and commitment to bringing the highways community together remains unwavering, as it provides a unique platform for members to engage, and a vital link between central and local government, supply chain and the wider highways community to ensure ongoing improvements in the highways sector.
LCRIG’s membership base is growing rapidly and over the last three months alone has increased by 5%, now standing at 156 Associate Members, 114 Council Members, 28 Partner Members and 9 Academia Members.

LCRIG also manages a number of national and regional working groups on behalf of its council members, including the North West, South East, South West, South Central working groups, the North East Materials Engineers Group and the Infrastructure Innovation Board.
Council membership is fully-funded, enabling members to access a suite of services free of charge. The only requirement is for councils to commit to communicating, participating, collaborating and innovating with LCRIG. As councils continue to face funding challenges, LCRIG provides support by helping to facilitate collaboration and discussions which ultimately help to stimulate investment in innovation and technology solution.
