Vacancy – Wigan Council – Graduate Engineer – Drainage and Flood Risk

Salary: Grade 6, £22,462 – £25,295 per annum.
37 hours per week
As a Graduate Engineer, you will be one of the key officers responsible for implementing our asset management approach to managing and maintaining our Flood and Water Risk Management responsibilities. In this role you will help to deal with the council’s responsibilities as a Local Lead Flood Authority (LLFA) under the Land Drainage Act with respect to watercourses.
You will also assist with the implementation measures relating to flood risk management brought about by the Flood and Water Management Act 2010, this includes periodically updating the local flood risk management strategy, completing flood investigations, updating the asset register and web database and the development and management of consenting to works adjacent to ordinary watercourses.
You will have a Degree in Civil Engineering BEng (Hons) or equivalent, and be able to research, analyse and interpret information and whilst also making recommendations based on your knowledge of all relevant legislation and national design standards including sustainable urban drainage systems.
You will possess experience of Health and Safety Legislation and best practice including risk assessment and the ability to work outdoors in all weather and in difficult to access areas in or near water is a must.
You will be working as part of the Flood Risk Team therefore you will need to be able to work as part of a team and also individually, you will also be IT literate and competent in using CAD and GIS software.
You will have an effective approach to customer care and have excellent communication skills, both oral and written. A current valid driving licence or the ability to travel as required using own or public transport in the most effective manner is necessary.

As part of the Flood Risk Team you will work closely with the Flood Risk Engineer and sit within the wider Network Management Team, which consists of many different disciplines.

Within the team you will be able to work flexibly between the hours of 7am and 7pm with our core hours being 10am – 2pm. Flexible working allows you to find a balance between home and work and there is also the opportunity to work from home if needed.
