LGTAG’s Presidential Conference this year will be focusing on: People, the Key Highway Asset – Find them, train them, keep them.
The event, which is being organised by the Local Council Roads Innovation Group (LCRIG), will include discussions on the benefits of increasing diversity within the sector, how to change the image of the highways industry to demonstrate to students from an early age that it is a sector with significant opportunities for training and advancement and how to provide training and growth opportunities for existing staff to keep them motivated, skilled and wanting to stay in the industry.
The conference will be of particular interest to senior managers and leaders within the highways sector as well as councillors and those with responsibilities for training, recruitment, and social value.
During the event, you will hear from influential speakers, including Richard Holden MP, Minister for Roads and Local Transport who will be providing the keynote speech for the conference. Speakers will share their experiences and aspirations, showcasing things that have really made a difference in in how they go about finding, training and keeping staff.
Kerry Winstanley, Finance and Operations Director at LCRIG, will provide an update on the work that LCRIG is doing around Skills.
LGTAG’s President, Amanda Richards said: “The highway sector is an area with significant variety and opportunities, but we don’t always sell ourselves well as a great career choice. Skills needed by the highway sector are more varied now than they have ever been with ever greater focus on digital skills and technologies while still needing to carry out our traditional functions in the most effective and efficient ways possible. This is the conference to attend to understand what to do now and how to do it to develop a diverse, interested and motivated workforce. With excellent and informative speakers and an exhibition showcasing innovations and practical solutions from across the industry.”
