Companies sign up for LCRIG’s Innovation Festival

Gaist, GallifordTry, JCB and WJ have been confirmed as Innovation Festival Partners for this year’s event, which is being delivered by the Local Council Roads Innovation Group (LCRIG).

The LCRIG Innovation Festival will be a first of its kind event, giving qualifying innovators the chance to receive funding to develop an innovation or facilitate a trial of their product or solution on a local authority network.

A number of local authorities have committed to making their networks available for trials and a portion of all exhibition space and sponsor sales at the festival will be put into the LCRIG / Steve Berry Innovation Fund, to be distributed to winning innovators, or to contribute to the cost of a trial, for each innovation category. More information on how to apply to be a qualifying innovator can be found here.

The event, which will take place from 6-7 July at Newark Showground, has been established to ‘make the case for innovation’ and will bring together local authorities, central government, the supply chain, associations and academia.

Multevo will act as the event’s promotional sponsor and a number of exhibitors have also booked space at the show.

These include:

  • Tarmac
  • RoadMender
  • DrainLine Southern Ltd
  • PAM Saint Gobain
  • Rennicks
  • RedStag
  • Map16
  • Connected Safety Net
  • Asphalt-IQ

The Department for Transport (DfT) and Transport Technology Forum (TTF) are key supporters of the event and a number of associations will also be in attendance including; ARTSM; Institute of Highway Engineers (IHE); ITS (UK); Rees Jeffreys Roads Fund; Road Surface Treatments Association (RSTA); TOPAS.

LCRIG Content Director Alec Peachey said: “We are really excited about delivering this year’s inaugural Innovation Festival. It is clear from the number of organisations, companies and associations that have already committed to participating in the event that there’s a real appetite to find out more about the latest innovations in the sector. Our event programme is really taking shape with delegates set to hear from innovators and operatives who are driving forward new ideas to help deliver change in the sector.

“A big part of the event will see everyone getting involved with judging entries across various categories to help decide who will be eligible for funding or trials. We have more exciting announcements to come so keep an eye on LCRIG channels to find out the latest about this industry first event. It promises to be a fantastic show and it’s not too late to get involved. However, with spaces already filling up quickly we would encourage everyone to register for the event and book their exhibition space now.”

Draft event programme released

Day 1 of the event will include a session entitled ‘Meet the Innovators’ which will feature LCRIG’s Infrastructure Innovation Board and some of the LCRIG Steve Berry Think Exceptional Innovation Fund winners. The panel will discuss the challenges around innovation and how these barriers can be overcome.

Delegates will participate in innovation scoring across both days of the event where they will be invited to judge entries across various categories including: Water course management; Highway Defects; Green Estate; Winter Maintenance; Transport Technology Fleet & Equipment; Health & Safety; Retroreflectivity.

On Day 2 an ‘Inspiring Innovation’ session will see the focus put on front line staff, highlighting real life examples of how they are driving innovation through their organisations. It will highlight, through real examples, how operatives can be engaged at the design stages of innovative projects and the benefits of this.
