Energy and Sustainability in the Public Sector 2022

Online: 26th April 2022, 9:00am – 4:30pm

Overview

Back in April, the UK government announced it will set the world’s most ambitious climate change target into law to reduce emissions by 78% by 2035 compared to 1990 levels. This alongside the far-reaching implications for everyone following decisions made at COP26, makes this an extremely timely event.

Public sector organisations are under a lot of pressure to act on climate change since the general public expects their local organisations to work towards a greener future for the communities that they serve. However, public sector entities confront the dual difficulty of funding the massive response required to make a difference on a public sector budget that is typically strained across multiple priorities.

Nevertheless, public sector organisations such as local governments and the NHS are making significant progress toward meeting climate targets. There is an obvious rapprochement between the NHS’s pledge to reach net-zero carbon emissions by 2045 and the declaration of a climate emergency by more than 230 councils throughout the UK.

Accelerating the path to sustainability by lowering carbon emissions to net-zero is no longer a lofty ambition; it is now a requirement if we are to avoid the substantial harms that would otherwise befall our communities. This event will look at how far the public sector has come in terms of advancing the energy and sustainability agenda. Hear from key policymakers and gain the most up-to-date information on government policy and implementation goals.

Practical case study examples from public sector organisations will demonstrate how to meet green targets and improve efficiency in key areas such as accelerating the transition to zero-emission vehicles, promoting green public transportation, greener buildings, environmental protection, and working toward net zero emissions by 2050.

As the UK strives to achieve net-zero energy, it has never been more critical for the public sector to play a role in the green revolution. Innovative solutions and cutting-edge technologies can play a key role in assisting the public sector not only in meeting its carbon reduction and environmental impact goals, but also in decreasing costs.
