Violet Crossing in memory of Violet Grace

Location Prescot Road, St. Helens

Start date 12/12/2019
Completion 12/12/2019

Project requirement Gareth Tyson of St Helens Council approached ourselves with the suggestion to install Tac-Grid, our innovative tactile crossing in the colour Violet to commemorate Violet Grace Youens, a beautiful young girl who was tragically killed whilst crossing the Road https://www.liverpoolecho.co.uk/news/liverpool-news/violet-grace-youens-st-helens-17401813. The family were consulted.

Services supplied The installation was for 17 sqm of the Tac-Grid tactile using a violet MMA Resin specially commissioned. Installed directly onto the existing tarmac surface no excavation needed The works were completed within 8 hours and will last in excess of 3 years. We installed a Live Beacon within the crossing allowing St. Helens Council to adapt the wording and can be accessed free of charge via the google app https://livebeacon.com/. The details we downloaded to the beacon show photos of Violet Grace with the message 'In Memory of Violet Grace, Uncontrolled Crossing for the Visually Impaired'

Costs- £

Outcomes The crossing has received positive media coverage. The brightness of the MMA Resin can be seen a distance away and adds the extra safety element for pedestrians . The i beacon is for ALL and can be accessed by the google app to show pedestrians the safer place to cross. Hardwearing and guaranteed to last in excess of 3 years under normal usage. This shows we can install our innovative tactiles in any colourway. Tac-grid is a continuous wet lay cold applied MMA resin tactile.
